| Description: |
1952 MERCEDES-BENZ 220B CABRIOLET This is truly an incredible motor car and is an exceptional driver in excellent mechanical condition. Nice paint and interior. Originally ordered in green with a tan interior. This is a California car that is solid and rust free with a detailed undercarriage. HISTORY OF THE 1952 MERCEDES-BENZ 220B: Est. 80 hp, 2,195 cc inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed column-shift transmission, independent front suspension with wishbones and coil springs, rear suspension by swing axles and coil springs, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112" Introduced at Frankfurt in 1951, the Mercedes-Benz 220 series was available in sedan, coupe and cabriolet variants. It was in production through August 1955, with only 997 Cabriolet B's built. The W187 was Mercedes-Benz's line of six-cylinder luxury cars in the early 1950s. It was sold as a sedan, coupe, and cabriolet, all with the 220 model name. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1951, the 220 sedan was replaced by the W105/W180 line in 1953. The coupe and cabriolet lasted until August 1955. All 220s used a 2.2 L (2195 cc/133 in³) straight-6 engine producing 80 hp DIN (86 SAE) (60 kW). The styling was similar to the 170 S except that the headlights were integrated into the fenders for a slightly more modern look. Two different cabriolet models were built, but they only sold 1,278 and 997 for the "A" (two-door) and "B" (four-door) versions, respectively. The saloon went out of production in May, 1954; the Cabriolet models soldiered on for another 15 months, now equipped with the new W180 220a's engine. Also, a Cabriolet A-based Coupé became available at that time. |
