This 1964 Porsche SC Cabriolet (#160315) was delivered in June of 1964. Ordered new from the factory for delivery in the United Kingdom, it had the extremely rare option of “steering wheel on the right” according to the Certificate of Authenticity.  Porsche made very few right-hand drive cars at the factory, so most you see are conversions. Unique features include the larger “A” style gas tank and parking brake handle relocation. Only a hand full of Porsche 356’s built were right-hand drive. Finding an SC Cabriolet is amazing. In fact, in the 26 years selling Porsche’s, we’ve never seen one!

The original owner was C. H. Sherwood, Esq. of Birmingham. He passed the car on to D. Mills in 1974. In 1977, Craig Gutshall, a pilot in the Royal Air Force purchased the car and soon after, he and his wife Barbara moved to Los Angeles, California. Craig and Barbara keep the car in the Los Angeles area until 1985 when they moved to Chico, California to run Barbara’s family farm. The right-hand drive car spent many years plying the roads of the Northern Sierra Foothills. Craig passed away some years ago and Barbara continued to drive the car on a near daily basis until this spring.

The right-hand drive SC Cabriolet is a matching numbers car and it retains all of its original panels. In 2002 it was restored in its original factory color, Light Ivory (6404). At that time, Guido’s Auto Precision rebuilt the engine, transmission and suspension.  Black leather front seats and German square weave carpet replicate the original equipment as installed at the Porsche factory in 1964. Being a factory SC, it is equipped with four wheel disc brakes, an up rated 95 HP motor and Solex carburetors.  This rare right-hand drive SC Cabriolet is ready to be enjoyed and it will certainly turn heads going down the road.
