| HISTORY European Collectibles began originally in the mid 80s with Nick’s truck and tow dolly, buying any British or European Sports Car, dead or alive. Being from New Zealand, these were the sports cars he knew as he grew up and with which he was most familiar. At that time the strongest market was in Europe and 90% of the cars were slated for export. One day, Nick was struck by thunder and lightening and he realized that a running car was worth more than a non-running car. He then saw that a painted car was worth more than a non-painted car. From there the business grew to include full restoration. In the early 90s the market shifted, and the locals rediscovered the 50s and 60s sports cars. The focus of the business has changed from export to restoring cars for local clients and fulfilling their dreams of having a Classic European Sports Car. Today, we have a full restoration facility, employing a staff of 12, including a full time metal man, paint and body prep department and mechanical staff. This allows us to perform all restoration functions in house, which enhances efficiency and where quality control is assured. ABOUT EUROPEAN COLLECTIBLES RESTORATION Work required on classic cars is often very time consuming and takes a great deal of patience, care and experience to get right. It is very rewarding to see a car leaving the workshop in almost the same condition as it was when new. Common tasks include recovering seats, re-padding seats, making and fitting headlines, hoods, door panels, carpets, trim panels and retrimming boot space. Whilst we strive to use original materials, they are not always available and we will use an alternative. Materials, fasteners etc. can be supplied to people who wish to retrim their car themselves. Estimates are available, but due to the nature of the work, we cannot give them without seeing the work required ourselves. Photographs can be helpful to give an idea of price. Requests for help and advice are always welcome. Please do not hesitate to contact us. |
