European Collectibles performed a full nut-and-bolt concour restoration on this Roadster over an 18-month period from 2008 to 2010. Finished in the stunning colors of Stone Grey over a Green leather interior with Grey German square weave carpets, a Salt and Pepper soft-top, and a green leather boot cover. During the restoration, this 356 was completely disassembled and stripped down to the bare shell so that every aspect could be properly addressed. The body and panels are original and still retain their correct stampings/numbers. All panels were pre-fit with bumpers, along with the windshield frame, and the soft top frame to ensure the absolute best result. All the chrome was triple plated, and all the components were restored or replaced.

The exterior trim and paintwork are in perfect condition with excellent gaps and panel fit. The exterior is further enhanced by factory Rudge wheels, removable headlight stone guards, and 128 Hella fog lights. The upholstery is in remarkable condition and is complemented by a VDM Carrera II wood steering wheel, deluxe chrome horn ring, Coco mats, a custom set of Green leather luggage, and an additional suitcase in the front trunk. The front bonnet, decklid, and both doors are all matching. Rare factory 4.5” x 15” Rudge Wheels (date coded 10/58) fitted with Vredestein 165 15 Sprint Classic tires.

According to the Kardex - build sheet, VIN 88147 was originally delivered by Hoffman Motors Corporation in New York to the first owner Mrs. Zimmerman in Pompano Beach, Florida. This Roadster was originally delivered in Signal Red over Black leatherette upholstery. Original options from the factory include Reclining Seats, Outside Mirror, Mexico Becker Radio, Loudspeaker, Antenna, and Chrome Wheels.

Mechanically powered by its matching 1600cc Super-90 flat-four engine (type 616/7) which runs phenomenally paired to its matching 4-speed manual 741 transmissions. Complete with owner's manual, warranty booklet, Roadster care & maintenance booklet, Super-90 annex to driver manual for engine type 1600 S-90, maintenance instruction for Porsche bodies, luggage, boot cover, travel kit, tool kit, jack, and spare tire. The 356 Speedster was one of Porsche's most successful models. Its lightweight, superior balance, and racy looks were all placed within reach of aspiring Porsche owners, thanks to its relatively low price. The price, however, also reflected the car's spartan passenger accommodations—sporty seats, a small top, side curtains, and a low windshield all formed part of this car's purpose-built sporting pretensions.

Porsche addressed these deficiencies in the summer of 1958 with the Convertible D, with the “D” denoting the car's builder, Drauz. It was, essentially, a second-generation but more-comfortable Speedster, and it was, in turn, succeeded for 1960 and 1961 by the 356B Roadster, in T-5 and T-6 bodies, respectively. The Roadster's roof and windshield were both higher than those of the Speedster, adding 3½ inches of headroom and providing a quantum leap in terms of comfort and visibility with the top-up. Roll-up windows replaced the Speedster's basic side curtains. Additional changes included more complete interior trim and better seats, similar to those offered in the 356 Coupe.
