1963 Porsche 356B Karmann Coupe

• VIN 211065
• Completed on July 23, 1962
• Same owner for the past 20+ years

In 1962, Porsche's ability to produce 356's was not able to keep up with the demand. To deal with this increase in demand, Porsche contracted with Karmann Coachbuilders in Osnabrück, Germany, to assist in production. Vin # 211065 was one of 3,500 examples produced from July 1962 to July 1963 and originally left the factory in Oslo Blue (color code 6203) with Red leatherette interior.

This is a great driver's quality 356B Coupe with California black plates, currently finished in Black with a very nice Red leather interior. The paintwork looks great for its age with only a few paint imperfections. The headliner, front and rear seats, dash, and German square weave carpets are all in very good condition with some patina and original VDO instrumentation. This 356B Coupe also includes chrome 5.5” x 15” rims with 205/55 15” tires and a removable “Lietz” chrome luggage rack. The undercarriage is very straight and solid with no signs of damage or rust. Excellent mechanical condition with a strong running 1600cc flat-four replacement engine and the original 4-speed 741 manual transmission with a four-wheel drum braking system.

During the ownership spanning from 2001-2021, the past owner serviced his 356 as needed working with Jack Staggs and Image Imports Independent Service. On April 15, 2002, Rusty Bottoms, from Yorba Linda, California was commissioned to address the undercarriage, which included replacement of the front floor and rear floor pans, battery box, perimeter tunnel repair, and bulkhead repair; totaling $3,100.00. Westminster Auto Upholstery completely reupholstered the dash, door panels, front and rear seats, installed new carpets, and a new headliner. After the rust repair and upholstery work was completed, the past owner was able to enjoy his 356. This is a great turnkey driver that is ready to drive and enjoy! Complete with Certificate of Authenticity, and records from 2001 to 2017, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a reliable 356 at this price point!

History
In late 1959, significant styling and technical refinements gave rise to the 356B (a T5 body type). The mid-1962 356B model was changed to the T6 body type (twin engine lid grilles, an external fuel filler in the right front wing/fender, and a larger rear window in the coupé). It is interesting to note that the Porsche factory didn't call attention to these quite visible changes with a different model designation. However, when the T6 got disc brakes, with no other visible alterations, they called it the model C, or the SC when it had the optional extra powerful engine.
