1968 Porsche 912 Karmann Coupe
• VIN 12804224
• Engine No. 1085965
• Completed on April 22, 1968
Southern California car, the final year of the short wheelbase 912, finished in its original color combination of Tangerine (6809) over Black leatherette upholstery. Options from the factory include Chrome Wheels, Bumper Horns, Warning Light, and Exterior Mirror - Left. The quality of the paintwork presents very well with perfect gaps and panel fit. The exterior benefits from polished aluminum trim, brightwork, original glass, and painted wheels. The upholstery is in excellent condition and features one-year-only door pockets, a wrapped steering wheel, a deluxe horn ring, brushed aluminum dash trim, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM blue dot radio. Due to a long life subject to California weather, the undercarriage is in exceptional condition with no signs of rust.
According to the California registration on file, the vehicle was owned by Mr. Sawyer from 2008 to 2018. During his ownership he had the vehicle repainted, the front seats upholstered and completed all the service work at Andial. On December 13, 2012, at 57,392 miles, Andial was commissioned to perform a full engine reseal. On May 30, 2018, at 62,269 miles, Walter Motorsports performed the following: rebuilt and tune the carburetors, rebuilt the fuel pump, replace the oil, replace the fuel filter, and replace the brake fluid.
Mechanically powered by its matching 1600cc flat-four engine producing 100HP which runs phenomenally paired to a 5-speed manual 901 transmission and four-wheel disc brakes. Complete with owner's manual, tool kit, spare, and Certificate of Authenticity. An excellent opportunity to acquire a very well sorted 912 finished in a desirable color combination.
History
The original run of the 912, was built between 1965 and 1969 and was briefly revived in 1976. The 1968 example exhibits the one-year-only unique door panels. The 912 engine was a 1,582cc pushrod flat-four from the 356C, which produced 102hp in 1968, nearly 80 fewer than the same year's 911S. A side benefit of owning a 912 involves weight, about 250 pounds less than a corresponding 911, virtually all of it at the car's extreme rear.
