Originally delivered with a 2.0L - 1,991-cc air-cooled flat-six engine with a 901 5-speed manual transmission and four-wheel disc brakes. The 911 Soft Window Targa was Porsche's award-winning engineering achievement that allowed sunshine and fresh air to flow into and through the car, much like the 356 Cabriolets, while providing greater strength and stability through its use of the Targa bar. Although Porsche offered a solid glass rear window in 1969, many buyers preferred the soft window version from 1967-1968.
